The worm pin is worn during operation, especially at the place where it drives the knife (knives).
The wear mark is not to exceed 1mm depth, and if this is the case, the worm pin has to be replaced.
Running with a worn worm pin may cause damage of the entire knife hub, which again may result in a total damage of the entire knife set.

Replacement of the Worm Pin
Please contact NPK to receive a quote to repair or refurbish your Auger/Worm
The worm pin is mounted with LOCKTITE 601 and secured with 2 keys. The keys are welded to the worm, as Shown on the drawing.
1. Grind away the welding.
2. The worm is hung op in the worm pin so that the worm is situated approx. 100 mm above the floor. Place a board between the worm and the floor.
3. Warm up the worm Pin evenly to approx. 2000 C. At this temperature the LOCKTITE will let go and the pin slides out.
4. Let the worm cool of and clean hole and key ways.
5. Mount the new pin with LOCKTITE 601.
6. Weld the keys as shown on the drawing.
7. Grind the weldings even.
Maintenance of Driver Gear
The driver is worn during operation and if A minimum is smaller than stated in the table, the driver is to be replaced.

Maintenance of Knife Housing
The key in the Knife Housing is worn during operation, and from time to time is has to be replaced.
The key prevents the holeplates and precutters from rotating. If it is not whole, this will eventually result in a plate rotating with the knife, which will result in damage of the complete knife set.

Replacement of the Knife Housing Key

1. Dismount the Screw.
2. Tap out the Key with a Screw Driver or another blunt object
3. Clean up the Keyway where the Key goes.
4. Insert the new Key.
5. Secure the screw with LOCKTITE 601.
Maintenance of Lining
The lining will be worn during operation depending on which product is being processed. If the internal diameter exceeds the measures as stated below, the lining must be refurbished or replaced.
The larger the working clearance between the lining and worm, the lower the discharge capacity will be. It can also cause smearing of the product

Replacement of the Bushing
Please contact NPK to receive a quote for Parts
1. The bushing is mounted with LOCKTITE 601. Heat up the Pilot Bearing to approx. 200 C.
2. Pull Out the bushing.
3. Let the Pilot Bearing cool off.
4. Clean the Hole thoroughly.
5. Mount the new Bushing using LOCKTITE 601.

Surface Grinding
Knives, Holeplates and Precutters
NPK provides Surface Grinding, please reach out for quote
To achieve the proper result, the surface grinder chuck must be completely clean and in proper working condition.
Do not use a too high feeding, as this will give unnecessary heat generation, causing oblique parts.
Grinding of Knives and Holeplates

Grind one side until it is clean.
-
Turn the part and grind the other side, until it is clean.
-
Turn the part once more and grind the first side once more.
-
The part is now finished.
-
Control the dimensions according to the pictures.
Grinding of Precutters
-
Grind only the side that turns toward the knife.
Control the dimensions in six places for the Holeplate and Precutter and two places on each knife arm as shown. Maximum difference in dimensions: 0.02 mm and thinnest at the center.

The thinner the holeplate is, the more it will tend to bend out because of the pressure, which will give a bad cutting and an increased wear of both holeplate and knife.
The smaller the holes are In the holeplate, the higher the pressure will be.
When using a double knife set, you have to control that the knife hubs do not touch each other, as this will make it impossible to tighten the knife set.

T-minimum is only a guide and may vary from product to product . The ground surface of the insert has to lay min. 1 mm above the knife body
Replacement of Seals at the Driver Shaft

Remove the 9 Allen screws MK5x50, key width 3.

In 3 of the holes an M6 thread has been cut for dismounting. Screw 3 M6x80 set screws in the thread holes and tighten the screws by turns whereby the holder is pressed out.

Dismount the sealing rings.

Clean the holder and mount new sealing rings. Note that ring no. 1 has to turn the lip towards the worm and that ring no. 2 has to turn the lip towards the gear.

Lube the sealing rings and the chamber between the seals with FMI grease.

Clean the driver shaft and control that the surface where the sealing touches the shaft is smooth and without grooves. If there are any grooves deeper than 0.2 mm, the shaft has to be replaced.

Mount the holder.
